What the photographer likes about the image: |
The day was clear and quiet after a night of snowfall and most
people were rushing to the ski resorts across town, leaving this
beachfront park to us. The grandeur of the scenery in the Sierra,
and especially around Lake Tahoe, is breathtaking. Even in a
high-resolution panoramic shot such as this, one fails to capture
the truly awesome natural beauty there. |
|
Techniques Used: |
I set the camera for ISO 100, zoomed in about halfway and did
a manual white balance calibration on some nearby snow. I then
took 4 shots, handheld, starting with the park shore on the left
and working my way to the right, overlapping the shots a bit,
and trying to hold the camera level and keep the horizon centered
between the top and bottom of the frame. Using Adobe Photoshop,
I did a small rotation of each of the shots to perfectly level
them, pasting them in as separate layers into one image. To finish,
I balanced the exposures using the curves function, and blended
the edges using the eraser tool and a fuzzy-edged brush. |
|
Things to notice: |
It proved to be difficult to blend the waves in the lake together
believably in the multiple shot, but following the natural lines
of contrast with the Eraser tool turned out to be a fairly successful
approach. Image editors or panorama stitching software can be
used to patch together truly dramatic panoramas, which are a
unique format. |
